With schools one week away from closing for Christmas break, you might be wondering how you can keep your children entertained this holiday. The answer is simple, festive and cost effective: make do-it-yourself (DIY) decorations together.
There's a vast array of DIY tutorials available to you on the Internet and they range from easy to complex. Sorting through them is time consuming, so to make things easier for you I located and tested tutorials, then compiled a list of crafts that were wallet and kid friendly.
1. Clothes pin reindeer

These adorable little reindeers don't cost very much to make and you are likely to already have some of the supplies in your home. The following is what was used to make them:
Newspaper
Styrofoam
Paint
Craft eyes
Pom-pom
Hot glue gun and glue
Glitter glue
Ribbons and/or bows
String for hanging
Clothes pins

2. Handprint ornaments
These handprint ornaments are simple to make and don't require very many supplies. In fact, all you need is a clear glass bulb, scrap fabric (for the scarfs) and paint.
3. Crayon drip ornaments

Like the handprint ornament, the crayon dip requires a clear glass bulb. The rest of the supplies are common finds in a family's household: crayons and a blow dryer.

4. Waterless snow globes

Have a leftover mason jar? Turn it into a cute waterless snow globe. All you need to make this is white glitter and some bottle brush trees, which you can usually buy five of for $5. If you want the trees to look frost covered, you can purchase a bottle of white spray paint to apply to them or you can buy them already frosted.

5. Paper towel roll snowflakes
This is arguably the most cost friendly of all Christmas crafts. To make this craft, all you require is a finished paper towel roll, some scissors, a hot glue gun, craft glue and a glitter of your choosing. What makes this one even easier? It takes all of ten minutes to make.
